Located in central North Carolina, the Uwharrie National Forest and its stubby mountains provide plenty of opportunities for those who seek it. Many people enjoy water sports, hunting, trapping, fishing, hiking, camping, backpacking, off-roading, living, running, and bonding with one another.
I tried my hand at a Horatian Ode to express my gratitude to the land that has afforded me plenty of adventure.
Enjoy.
Whipping and winding roads smother the shore of Badin Lake.
Inspired grizzly men quit their duties to recreate on the land.
The Uwharries afford opportunity, make no mistake.
A sportsman falls short. Depleted. No prize in hand.
Game untouched, scurries among the hardwood oak.
Dusk encroaches. Backpackers press along their course.
Campers make shelter for the night. In fabric they reside.
Blistering campfire flames speak to the sky as adults joke.
Beams of fury engulf the hills. All rise. Voices hoarse.
Unsung Uwharries. In your hills, many take pride.
